Pet of the Week

Name: Johnny Macho
Gender: Male, neutered
Size: Medium
Age: Young Adult
Breed: Russian Blue Mix
Color: Grey and White

Johnny Macho is a very handsome Russian Blue mix who was born in January 2008. He was surrendered to a local municipal shelter and one of our NBCR volunteers rescued him from being put-to-sleep due to overcrowding.

Understandably, Johnny was very scared at the shelter, but after a few days in a foster home with some TLC he was a new cat. He is such a love ball and will crawl all over you to get petted. He purrs so sweetly when you rub his ears, and he enjoys tummy rubs so much he will flip over so you get the hint when he wants one.

Johnny goes crazy for catnip. When you put it on his cardboard scratcher he will drool over it and starts to act playful and silly. He has very good manners and does not jump up on tables or cabinets.

He is an extremely unique, loving, and handsome cat.

Pet of the Week

Name: Adam
Gender: Male, neutered
Size: 8 lbs
DOB: 2007
Breed: Chihuahua / Papillon Mix
Color: White and Black

Adam was pulled from a local pound because he was heartworm positive, and could not be adopted. He has successfully completed his treatment, and is now ready for a forever home.

Adam is a sweet little dog who enjoys car rides, being with his people, and the company of other dogs. He can be a little timid at first, and even a little hand shy, and he isn’t wild about being picked up, but once you start to pet him, he quickly calms down and enjoys the attention. Adam prefers women over men, but he will get along with men if they are patient with his shyness.

He is housetrained, but does not like to be crated. He does fine being kept behind a baby gate during the day, as long as he has other dogs to keep him company. He is vaccinated and microchipped.

Pet of the Week

Name: Jubilee
Gender: Female, spayed
Size: Medium
DOB: 2008
Breed: Plott Hound Mix
Color: Brown brindled

Please meet Jubilee, a beautiful 9-month-old Plott Hound/Lab mix rescued from a local animal shelter where she came in as a stray. Jubilee means celebration and that is truly what symbolizes this sweet girl. She celebrates every day now that her life has been saved and she is beginning to understand love in her foster home. Jubilee weighs 40 lbs and is a beauty. She is extremely smart, and she learned how to sit almost immediately. She has completely mastered the doggie door. She's learning other basic commands and is learning "doggie manners" from her foster siblings with whom she loves to play. Jubilee would do best in a home with other dogs, as she loves to play.

Pet of the Week

Name: Audi
Gender: Female, spayed
Size: Medium
DOB: 2006
Breed: Boxer
Color: Brown & White

Audi is the sweetest little girl ever. She was found on a playground, extremely thin and heartworm positive. Now that she’s better, she’s ready for her forever home.

Audi loves other dogs, and gets very excited when she meets them. She loves to play with them, but doesn’t like it when they take her bones or toys. She’ll need a home with another dog companion where she can be left uncrated and free to move about the house when her people are away. A doggy door would be great as well.

She also does great with cats and children.

Name: Kona
Gender: Female, spayed.
Size: Large
DOB: August 2007
Breed: Labrador Retriever
Color: Chocolate

Kona is a beautiful and happy dog. She is very friendly and enjoys meeting people and horsing around. Her favorite game is fetch, and she’ll go after things with gusto. Kona is a fast learner, too. She has already mastered "sit" and is working on "wait" and "shake".

Kona wants a family to love her and she'll be a loyal, loving family member too. She has the typical, wonderful lab disposition.

Pet of the Week

Name: Sage
Gender: Female, spayed
Size: Small
DOB: May 2007
Breed: Tabby
Color: Grey & White

Sage is a wonderfully sweet and loving kitty. She was rescued as a tiny kitten in Wills Point, TX. She is currently living in a foster home with other cats, but unfortunately, she is still very lonely. Sage was born with feline leukemia, and must be kept separated from the other cats. Right now, she has no playmates.

Many cats can live with FeLV for many, many years with no problems. However, we are hoping to find an experience cat owner who currently has no other cats or has only FeLV+ cats in the home. Sage is very social and needs companionship. Please consider this special needs kitty for your home.

Pet of the Week

Name: Chloe
Gender: Female, spayed
Size: 40 – 50 lbs full grown
DOB: May 2008
Breed: Lab mix
Color: Black & White

Chloe is simply a little angel. She's extremely friendly and good-natured, and she just wants to be loved.

Chloe and her brothers and sisters were rescued from a very neglectful situation, but now they've flourished with lots of love and room to play. Chloe deserves a forever home of her own where she'll enjoy being a part of the family, even if it's just sitting at your feet or watching TV with you (something she actually loves to do). She's certainly going to make some lucky person or family extremely happy and reward them with countless years of true love, companionship, and loyalty!

Name: Piccolo
Gender: Male, neutered
Size: Small
DOB: 2006
Breed: Terrier Mix

Color: White & Black
Piccolo is a funny boy! He's a small guy, about 12 pounds and he looks like a wire-haired Boston Terrier! He's got an even temperament and is easy going.

Piccolo enjoys going on walks and exploring outside. He has a great attitude when meeting other dogs both those bigger and smaller than he. Piccolo is one of those dogs that when you pet him, he just can't keep his tail from wagging. He loves attention. But, he has a mellow side too and will come put his head on your foot after a nice walk. He's adorable, friendly, and fun, what more could you ask for?

Pet of the Week & Local Adopt-a-Pets

Name: Ziggy
Gender: Male, Neutered
Size: Medium
DOB: 2000
Breed: Bearded Collie Mix
Color: White & Grey

Ziggy was rescued in terrible condition: neglected, matted, and heartworm positive. He had to be completely shaved, and immediately started HW treatment. Now, happy and healthy, Ziggy is ready for his forever home.

Ziggy loves running, playing, and going for short walks. He is also very affectionate, and he deserves to finally have a home where someone loves him. He might be ideal for someone who is retired, as long as they are prepared to maintain his coat (since Bearded Collies grow very long coats). He is also housetrained, but he must be the only pet – he doesn’t want to share you with anyone. He is also on a glucosamine supplement for his joints.

Name: Shafer
Gender: Male, Neutered
Size: Small
DOB: 2004
Breed: Manchester Terrier Mix
Color: Black and brown

Shafer loves lounging around indoors, but he also enjoys variety, and gets excited about going outside for a walk. Like all dogs, he enjoys tummy rubs and snuggling with his human family.

He should do fine with children in their young teens, and he gets along well with cats and female dogs. He has a Napoleon complex though, so he isn’t fond of other male dogs.

Overall, Shafer is a happy little dog who is eagerly awaiting his forever home. He is leash trained and housetrained.

Pet of the Week & Local Adopt-a-Pets

Name: Maribel
Gender: Female, spayed
Size: Medium
Age: Young Adult
Breed: Calico DSH Mix
Color: White, orange, and black

Maribel is a lovely Calico/Oriental Domestic Short Hair. She was at a local animal shelter with her 3 kittens and they were all at risk of being put to sleep due to overcrowding. Seeing how sweet and beautiful this kitty family was, NBCR pulled them all and placed them up for adoption. All 3 of Maribel's kittens were quickly adopted, but being a little shy, Maribel is the last of the family looking for her forever home.

Maribel apparently had never had anyone to interact with - she did not know how to play or did not purr for quite sometime. But once she has learned to trust people, and that her little rattle-mouse was a toy to toss around and chase after, she has been non-stop playing ever since. When you rub her just the right way, you can hear a faint and sweet purr. It is wonderful to see the fun she has playing, and the enjoyment she gets from being loved.

She enjoys the company of other cats and has limited contact with dogs, but is fine with them too.

Name: Firecracker
Gender: Male, Neutered
Size: 10 lbs
DOB: Spring 2007
Breed: Chihuahua
Color: Black

Although Firecracker is a spirited dog, don’t let his name fool you. He has lots of energy, but he’s a sweet dog that loves to snuggle with people, and play with other dogs as well. He really enjoys playing with his toys, taking long walks, and going for car rides. He is housetrained, crate trained, and knows several commands.

Firecracker was pulled from a local shelter when his time was up. He is in a foster home now that he shares with a Lab mix and a Beagle. Life is better for him, but he is still looking for a forever home. He is vaccinated and HW negative. Please contact us soon if you are interested in meeting Firecracker.

Pet of the Week & Local Adopt-a-Pets

Name: Baby
Gender: Female, Spayed
Size: Medium
DOB: 2004
Breed: Bulldog
Color: White

Baby is a beautiful 4 year-old bulldog. An independent tomboy at heart, all she wants to do is wrestle and play. Baby can rest quietly in her kennel, but she also loves to follow you around the house. Like all dogs, she just love affection – but she wants it all to herself, and prefers to be in a home with no other dogs or cats.

She is HW negative, vaccinated, and housetrained. In keeping with her tomboy spirit, she can be a headstrong dog, so a home with previous bulldog experience is preferred.

Pet of the Week & Local Adopt-a-Pets

Name: Costello
Gender: Male, neutered
Size: Large
DOB: 2005
Breed: Labrador Retriever
Color: Yellow

We call Costello a Lovador Retriever, because he is such a loving dog. He wants nothing more than to be with a family who has lots of affection to give: kids, dogs – the more the merrier! He loves them one and all. He is good in the house, great in the car, and can sit on command. Costello is also easy on the eyes; his vet, who has seen a lot of labs, thinks he is one of the most handsome dogs to come his way in a long time.

Name: Foster
Gender: Male, Neutered
Size: Large
DOB: Spring 2007
Breed: Labrador Retriever
Color: Yellow

Foster is an extremely handsome one-year-old purebred Yellow Labrador Retriever. He arrived as a stray at a local animal shelter, but his owners never came to get him. EARS thought he was too handsome and sweet to be left at the shelter, so we took him and placed him a temporary home.

Foster is doing wonderfully. He lives with a cat and another dog that he adores. He is very good-natured and loves everyone and everything. He is very content when he is sitting next to his foster brother and being petted, but when he hears his favorite squeaky toy, he is on the run to get it.  He also loves riding in the car. Foster is crate trained and housetrained, vaccinated, neutered, and HW negative.

Pet of the Week & Local Adopt-A-Pets

Name: Chelsea
Gender: Female, spay pending
Size: Small
Age: 3 months
Breed: Calico
Color: White, orange, and black

Chelsea is a three-month-old calico rescued from animal control. She was turned in as a stray, but was very playful and well-socialized right from the start. She was at animal control nearly two weeks when it was decided her time was up. NBCR pulled her out, but after a week in foster care she got very sick with a high fever. Once her fever came down, she developed ringworm, which she is now almost over.

Despite her minor setbacks, she seems eternally grateful to be in a foster home. She is nothing but happy these days, and she seems to know her life is going to be great from now on. Every day is a party for her; she plays with other cats, dogs, people, and anything that moves. Chelsea is shown in this photo with her foster sister Sasha.

Pet of the Week & Local Adopt-A-Pets

Name: Denali
Gender: Male, Neutered
Size: 60 – 70 lbs
Age: 1 -2 years old
Breed: Pit Bull Terrier
Color: White with a little tan
Special Needs: Denali is deaf and will need to learn hand commands.

Denali is at a very temporary foster home right now, where he is living with five dogs, two cats, and a bunny rabbit. Initially, he got along with everyone, but we now feel he probably needs to be the only dog. He sleeps at his foster mom's feet, and he is very good-natured otherwise. He also loves water, and will sit on the steps of the pool. Unfortunately, as you can tell in this photo, someone has cut his ears off completely to the skull.

He is making continual improvements with this crate training and housetraining, though he is not perfect. He can play fetch and will let you take the ball from his mouth. He has been vetted, vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. In conjunction with Happy Endings Dog Rescue, we are attempting to raise money for his HW treatment. If you would like to donate, you can send a check or call in with a credit card to:

VCA Loop 12 Animal Hospital
3607 N Buckner Blvd
Dallas, TX 75228
214.321.6916
Denali - Happy Endings Dog Rescue Account

He will be available for adoption just as soon as he completes his HW treatment, but we are accepting applications on him now.  He is not being taught sign language at this time. His foster mom really thinks he would do well in a home with another friendly dog to keep him company and to show him the ropes.

Please contact us soon if you would like to adopt Denali. He has really won the heart of all those who have met him, but he cannot stay where he is at for long.

Pet of the Week & Local Adopt-A-Pets

Name: Petey
Gender: Male, Neutered
Size: Medium
Age: 2 years old
Breed: Pit Bull Terrier
Color: Brown & White

DOB 2006. Petey is a sweetie! This young pit bull terrier was rescued from southwest Oak Cliff, where he roamed the streets for many weeks. He was even shot at by some callous person, and he has a bullet wound scar in his leg.

He is currently being boarded, but the man who found him visits him often. Petey has not had any formal training, but he knows two commands: "Lick my face!" and "Roll over for a belly rub!" He is one of those dogs that absolutely loves affection. He'll put his head in your lap, and he never gets tired of letting you pet, hug, and kiss him.

He does not have signs or behaviors to indicate that he could have been a fighter, and has never shown aggression to a person. He is friendly with most but not all dogs, and probably needs to be an only dog, or have a female his age and size. He walks very well on a leash, and ignores pedestrians and other animals when walking.

He is vaccinated, neutered, dewormed, and is heartworm negative.

Contact us today if you’d like to meet Petey, or have an application emailed to you. Greater Dallas inquiries only please.

Name: Mulan
Gender: Female, Spayed
Size: Medium
Age: 2 – 4 years old
Breed: Boxer
Color: White

The word Mulan means blossoming Magnolia. We named this girl Mulan because of her blossoming personality and loving demeanor.

She has a wonderful soft, white coat, and she adores being petted and loved on, which she didn’t get in her previous home. She is currently living with another dog in her foster home, and she gets along well with kids too (though we don’t know about cats).

Mulan is a happy girl, and sometimes she wiggles and wags so much, that she ends up walking walk sideways. She also has one of the cutest and most endearing faces. This girl will go fast, so please contact us today if you are interested in meeting her.
